KELLY’S SCHOOL PROFILE

Kelly's School is located in the town of Luquillo, 28 miles east of San Juan.  It is an elementary and secondary institution, secular, multilingual and non-profit.

The institution was founded by the teacher, Esther Vargas Martínez (Mrs. Kelly).  In its beginnings it was a tutoring center with an enrollment of six students, five of them Mrs. Kelly's children.  In several years, a school from Pre-Kindergarten to first grade is formed. He obtained his first license in 1980 from the Department of Instruction, at that time.

Kelly's School gained prestige as an educational institution, thanks to its founder, an enterprising educational leader and lover of educational work. The school extended its services to neighboring towns and Luquillo, with great success.  In its license renewal, it was granted up to the sixth grade, covering the entire elementary school.  In 2004, the General Council of Education granted the seventh and eighth grades to the institution. We have developed in an elementary school until eighth grade.  In 2011 it was granted to add the secondary level.

In 2002, Kelly's School obtained its accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Educational Institutions, which gave the institution prestige.  In our academic aspiration of excellence we operate in an institution from Pre-Pre Kinder to fourth year.  Kelly's School is in its best educational moment.  All involved and together we managed to build a school that is respectful of the interests of the student and society, truly an institution of academic excellence and education of values.

We firmly believe that the development of knowledge and skills must occur parallel to the development of human values, whose purpose is the well-being and improvement of society.

This institution recognizes the basic and fundamental rights of students and encourages their participation in decision-making on important issues that impact the school community.

The institution encourages the integration of parents in the educational work of their children.  It also considers community participation of utmost importance, since it contributes to the successful development of the vision and mission we pursue.

Kelly's School pursues educational excellence and its teaching is based on constructivist, creative, global and humanist theories.  Knowledge through moral development is the most valuable thing that human beings inherit.  Learning is oriented towards the act of thinking and the effective development of the student.  The student is an active being, with critical, creative and constructivist thinking in his learning with a globalized approach.  We prioritize the student as the center of the educational process, with varied, interesting and stimulating options to learn.
